Dear NYU SPS Community,

Welcome to the start of a new term! To our students, both new and returning, I look forward to seeing all the ways you will create impact in our classrooms and in the industries at the heart of our school community. And to our faculty and staff, thank you for your tireless efforts in ensuring a smooth and strong start to the term.

Even as we celebrate the excitement of a new semester, I want to acknowledge the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles and the members of our community affected by them. My heart goes out to our students, faculty, and staff who call LA home, and the city remains in our thoughts. If you have been impacted, please know that we are here for you. I encourage all of our community members to take advantage of NYU’s resources here.

We welcomed over 650 new students to campus this week; we are delighted to have 29 new adjuncts and three new clinical faculty join us this semester; and 65 students visited four unique countries (Kenya, Buenos Aires, India, and UAE) this January in J-Term classes. We also hosted over 50 senior publishing executives at the 2nd Advanced Publishing Institute. In other exciting news, The Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA) is now The Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media. We believe that this name more accurately reflects the Center’s mission to educate, lead, and innovate in the world of global communications for the benefit of our students and academic community.

As always, our mission at NYU SPS is to continue our commitment to student success, building industry connections, and creating a welcoming and supportive community in which students, faculty, and staff can flourish. I’m looking forward to this semester’s new projects, initiatives, connections, and conversations that surely will uphold that aim.

Warmly,
