Office of Faculty Affairs

The SPS Office of Faculty Affairs serves as a resource to faculty and staff, ensures compliance with policies as they pertain to faculty, and supports the faculty lifecycle.

Mission

The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) promotes excellence throughout all phases of the faculty lifecycle for both full-time and adjunct faculty. From initial appointments to teaching assignments to development opportunities including promotion, OFA communicates, implements, and safeguards all NYU and SPS faculty policies, procedures, and contracts.

The Office of Faculty Affairs:

  • Works with the SPS Office of Finance to assist academic units with recruiting, hiring, and reappointing SPS’s adjunct faculty (≅1,200 faculty) in accordance with Local 7902 Collective Bargaining Agreement

  • Provides resources (Brightspace sites, group and 1:1 training, faculty forum sessions) and technology solutions (Interfolio, FAS, Tableau, Salesforce CRM) to support faculty as they progress through each stage of the academic lifecycle

  • Advocates for and coordinates faculty development opportunities from research to mentoring to establishing labs, centers and institutes

  • Collaborates closely with the Learning and Teaching NEXUS to promote teaching excellence at SPS

  • Facilitates faculty governance and supports the Faculty Council by assisting with faculty meetings, committee elections, and charter and policy interpretations

  • Consults regularly with the NYU Office of Academic Appointments and the NYU Office of Global Inclusion, as well as other NYU central offices, to strengthen and support a robustly diverse SPS faculty
