Mobilizing for Social Change: Organizing Effectively
This course explores the principles of effective social mobilization informed by both the academic literature as well as the lived experiences of social movement activists. Topics and skills covered include strategic planning, stakeholder analysis, effective communications, international campaigns and solidarity networks, and fighting disinformation.
A wide range of cases will be drawn upon, with special attention to movements resisting dictatorship and extreme populist nationalism, as well as movements pursuing racial, gender, and economic justice. Students will be asked to identify a movement of personal interest to them which will serve as the focus of their course-long project.
