Intercollegiate Athletics
College athletic departments differ according to institutional vision, conference affiliation, and NCAA classification. Most athletic programs are hierarchical or tiered structures with varied educational and business goals. In the absence of a common template or ¿best practices¿ model for institutions, the need for sound strategic planning and deliberate ongoing assessment is explored. In this course, the topics to be examined include an examination of organizational models and management strategies of intercollegiate athletics departments, campus-based governance, the impact of conference and NCAA affiliations, institutional and athletic department funding sources, mission and goal creation, strategic planning and assessment, personnel management, and creating structural efficiencies for daily program operations.
