Center for Global Affairs Alumni Spotlight: Aya Takeuchi

M.S. in Global Affairs ‘19

Concentration in Global Gender Studies

Currently, Aya works as a Private Sector Coordination and Due Diligence Consultant at the United Nations.

What makes you proud to be an alum?
Having a community where you are always there for you when you need advice, or when someone is seeking your advice.

What are your main areas of responsibility in your current role?
1) Conduct due diligence (risk assessment) for prospective private sector partners of UN Women, 2) create internal knowledge management products (business intelligence, case studies), 3) Coordinate and establish UN Women newsletters, 4) supporting private sector engagement coordination.

How did your time at the CGA help prepare you for this role?
I started with an internship at UN Women. The area of work during the internship and the first consultancy was not the area of work I studied well or was familiar with. However I always wanted to work for UN Women, and that’s the main reason why I chose the concentration leading from professors who have had experiences in UN work. But now I think about it, all those learnings and experiences at NYU definitely helped me who I am today. But most importantly, having met my best friends who have always encouraged me, and who I really respect have kept me working hard at UN Women and being my work recognized by the organization.

Any favorite memories at the CGA?
Global Field Intensives in UAE supervised Prof. Sylvia Maier.
