CGA Alumnus and CGA Professor Make Apolitical's Top 100 in Gender Policy List

A CGA alumnus and a faculty member were listed among the most influential people in gender policy in 2021 by Apolitical, a London-based non-profit that supports international and national policy-makers to advance social justice policies.

Leslie Archambeault, (NYU CGA 2016), was awarded this recognition for her work as Director of Gender Policy and Advocacy, Save the Children in Washington DC, where she leads on strategy development and execution of gender equality and girls’ rights advocacy across the US government’s foreign policy and assistance efforts, including legislation on girls’ civic and political participation, and the Girls LEAD Act. Among many other things, Leslie also co-chairs the DC-based Big Ideas for Women and Girls Coalition designed to hold the new Biden administration to account for advancing women’s rights.

CGA Faculty member Anne Marie Goetz was recognized for her extended contributions to the field of women’s leadership and women, peace and security, including for her work at the UN as the Director of UN Women’s work on women, peace and security (prior to joining CGA in 2014), and for her research and publications since that time.

This is the second year that gender policy influencers have been identified and honored in this way. In the first year, NYU CGA student Mariam Jalabi, who is currently the representative to the UN of the Syrian National Coalition, in opposition to the Syrian government, was listed among the top 20 recipients of this recognition, in honor of her role in founding the Syrian Women’s Political Movement. She has since lobbied for inclusion of this Movement as a specific party to talks in Moscow and Cairo to represent women in Syrian civil society in efforts to build a post conflict constitution for peace in Syria.

In 2021 the list of 100 most influential gender policy influencers recognizes individuals who have contributed to the UN, France and Mexico’s ‘Generation Equality’ initiative to accelerate implementation of globally-agreed goals set more than 25 years ago at the 4th UN Conference on Women at Beijing.  Six themes form the backbone of the 2021 Generation Equality Forum:

  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

  • Economic Justice and Rights

  • Bodily Autonomy and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

  • Feminist Action for Climate Justice

  • Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality

  • Feminist Movements and Leadership

The 100 most influential list also celebrates people working on other areas that support and intersect with these themes, such as Gender, Peace and Security and Gender Equality Funding.
