Responding to Emergencies in the Global System, a course taught by CGA Clinical Professor Christopher Ankersen, recently wrapped up a two-day simulation exercise.
18 students from NYU SPS Center for Global Affairs and NYU School of Global Public Health participated in the simulation, where they acted as "action officers" in a regional organization managing a complex crisis.
Jamie Farrell, HQ Security Specialist for UNDP, served as an expert faciliator and resource for students as they worked through the complex emergency. Designed by Christopher Ankersen, the experience was an opportunity for students to get experience managing a complex crisis and is an example of the applied training our faculty incorporate into the classroom.
The exercise and course content provided students with a strong focus on risk assessment, planning, mitigation, community empowerment, crisis communication, teamwork, and teamwork/cross-disciplinary approaches.
