Associate Dean
Andrea Chambers
NYU SPS Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA)

Andrea L. Chambers is the Associate Dean of the NYU SPS Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA).  She oversees the Master of Science in Publishing, Master of Science in Translation and Interpreting, and Master of Science in Professional Writing as well as the NYU Summer Publishing Institute,  PALA Continuing Education courses and certificates, the Academy of Lifelong Learning, Language Proficiency Exams, and other programs including executive education courses in publishing. Previously, she was Academic Director of the Master of Science in Publishing at The NYU School of Professional Studies and Executive Director of the Center for Publishing. Her wide-ranging publishing career includes senior executive positions at magazines such as Time, People, and Seventeen and as a consultant to the National Geographic Society’s children’s magazines.

In book publishing, she worked as Vice President and Executive Editor at Penguin Group (USA), specializing in best-selling non-fiction political books and biographies. She is a published author and award winning magazine writer. Andrea is a judge of the National Magazine Awards and a past president of the Women’s Media Group. She received her M.S. in Journalism from Boston University.

Annelise Finegan

Academic Director, Translation & Interpreting and Clinical Associate Professor

An award-winning translator, Annelise has published translations from Chinese including novels, short fiction, and non-fiction by prominent contemporary and historical authors. She has worked for academic and textbook publishers as an acquisitions editor, publishing coordinator, bilingual copy editor, and project manager. She earned her PhD in Comparative Literature at Washington University in St. Louis, where she also completed a Graduate Certificate in Translation Studies. Her current book project, “Translational Stages: Chinese Theatrical Modernism,” explores the relationship between forms of translation and forms of theatrical expression. In 2022 her translation of Hsu Yen Ling's play The Dust had its US premiere.

Kristine Rodriguez Kerr

Academic Director, Professional Writing and Clinical Associate Professor

Kristine Rodriguez Kerr's, EdD, research interests include new literacy studies, educational justice, online learning, and curriculum development. As a qualitative researcher, Kristine seeks to explore and understand multimodal composing practices in both traditional and non-traditional spaces of learning. As an educator in an increasingly connected and digital world, Kristine strives to engage, challenge, and inspire her students at all levels to become better communicators, critical thinkers, effective storytellers, and accomplished professionals. To that end, she works to encourage creative and critical reflections as students develop practices of writing and revision that prepare them to live in the world as thoughtful and active contributors.

Kristine believes that it is critical for professional writers to strive to understand the affordances of new and emerging communication technologies, digital literacy practices, and the shifting relationships between authors and audiences in conventional and interactive contexts.

Kristine earned a doctorate in Communication and Education from Teachers College Columbia University and an MA and BA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Kristine Rodriguez Kerr

Sharyn Rosart

Academic Director, Publishing

Sharyn Rosart brings more than 25 years of publishing experience to the role of Academic Director. Most recently, she was the founding publisher of wellness imprint Spruce Books at Sasquatch/Penguin Random House, as well as a member of the PRH Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. Prior to that, Sharyn worked with a variety of publishers large and small as Client Sales Director at Penguin Random House Publisher Services. Her earlier experience includes co-founding and leading Quirk Packaging, a leading producer of illustrated books, for more than a decade; she also worked as Editorial Director at Barnes & Noble Publishing and served as an editor at Friedman/Fairfax Books for more than 10 years. Sharyn began her career in publishing in Canada, where she attended Queen’s University and earned her Master’s in Comparative Literature.

Paul Amodeo

Assistant Director, Publishing

Paul Amodeo is an Assistant Director at the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA), where he oversees the Summer Publishing Institute (SPI), as well as numerous other department initiatives. Paul started at SPS in 2017, where he was an event coordinator at the Office of Events. Prior to working at NYU, Paul had an extensive career in the performing arts. When not at NYU, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, and improving his golf game.

Victoria McKeon

Assistant Director, Publishing

Victoria McKeon has been with the Publishing department at NYU since 2007, supporting the Summer Publishing Institute (SPI), executive education programs, and now primarily the MS in Publishing. In this role, they are able to join their twin passions for the written word and for education, supporting both students and the Publishing team. Victoria's keen eye for detail has made them the proofing lead for all department materials. They hold a B.A. in English Language Arts from CUNY Hunter College and a Master's Certificate in TESOL from NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

Darius Phelps

Assistant Director, Programs, Professional Writing and Translation & Interpreting

Darius Phelps is a PhD Candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University. An educator, poet, spoken word artist, and activist, Darius writes poems about grief, liberation, emancipation, reflection through the lens of a teacher of color and experiencing Black boy joy. His poems have appeared in the NY English Record, NCTE English Journal, Pearl Press Magazine, ëëN Magazine, and many more. Recently, he was featured on WCBS and highlighted the importance of Black male educators in the classroom.

Melinda Affriol

Student Advisor, Translation & Interpreting and Professional Writing

Melinda Affriol earned her Bachelor's Degree from Montclair State University. After graduating college, she began her journey working in the education field where she served as a high school English teacher in Thailand for four years. Upon returning to the United States and wanting to stay in the industry of education, she began working at NYUSPS in the office of Continuing Education Student Services, helping students gain new skill sets to advance their careers. She now works in Student Affairs as the Assistant Director of Student Academic Support Services, where she will serve as an academic advisor for MSTI and MSPW programs and develop initiatives to enhance the student support and engagement experience.

Administrative Aide, Publishing

Christian Doyle joined the Publishing department in 2022, and is responsible for aiding the assistant directors of both the MS in Publishing and Summer Publishing Institute (SPI). Before joining NYU, Christian spent a year tutoring high school level math at Abraham Lincoln High School, through SAGA Innovations, a non-profit designed to supplement the educational inequity in underprivileged communities. He earned his B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, and his Master’s in Irish Literature and Culture from University College Dublin.

Gary Winter

Administrative Aide, Professional Writing and Translation & Interpreting

Gary is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts Dramatic Writing Program. His plays have been produced at the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville (2015 Heideman Award) and various other theaters. Support from MacDowell and YADDO artist colonies.  Gary recently translated the memoir of Ady Mandelbaum (French to English), about her experience in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Gary has been a mentor and editor with the PEN Prison Writing Program, and has tutored inmates at the Queensboro Correctional Facility.  He co-created and directed The Scott & Gary Show, recently seen at the Museum of the City of New York’s New York, New Music exhibit.

Jenny McPhee

Academic Director, Continuing Education Programs and Clinical Assistant Professor

Jenny McPhee is teaching in the MS in Translation & Interpreting program. She is the author of the novels The Center of Things, No Ordinary Matter, and A Man of No Moon, and she co-authored Girls: Ordinary Girls and Their Extraordinary Pursuits. Her translations from the Italian include books by the authors Natalia Ginzburg, Primo Levi, Giacomo Leopardi, Curzio Malaparte, Anna Maria Ortese, Paolo Maurensig, and Pope John Paul II. She has taught literary translation at Princeton University and she co-founded the Bronx Academy of Letters, an NYC public high school and middle school. She is a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship.

Afua Preston

Associate Director, Administration, Graduate And Continuing Education Programs

Afua has been an NYU Administrator for over 30 years and 15 of those years were in the department of Languages and Translation and Interpreting at SPS. She was also given the  NYU SPS Distinguished Administrator award in 2008. Afua has a love for romance languages and holds a B.A. in Italian Language and Culture from SUNY Purchase.

Alicia Kubes

Associate Director, Programs

Alicia Kubes is responsible for the administration of PALA’s arts and humanities programming. Alicia previously worked at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she managed the Moving Image Archiving & Preservation M.A. program from the time it was launched in 2003. She is a former recipient of the NYU Distinguished Administrator Award, the first recipient of the Alan Stark Award from the Association of Moving Image Archivists, and is the founding president of New York University Toastmasters. She has a B.A. in Art History from Boston University, an M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from NYU Steinhardt, a Certificate from the Administrators Cultural Training Institute at NYU, and a Certificate in Arts Administration from NYU SPS.

Miguel Ortíz-Crane

Associate Director, Programs

Miguel Ortiz-Crane is responsible for programming in Writing, Media, and Communications. Before joining our team in 2018, he held roles in other NYUSPS departments including Information Technology, Institutional Research & Analytics, and the Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies. He is a graduate of the inaugural 2017-2018 NYU Management Fellows Program. Prior to NYU, Miguel spent nearly 20 years in magazine publishing logistics and operations. Miguel has a B.A. in Social Sciences and an M.S. in Global Affairs from NYU SPS.

Celeste Williams

Assistant Director, Programs

Celeste Williams, a Higher Education Professional with a background in university administration and student support services, began her career at New York University as an administrative aide, dedicating 8 years to the role. Later, she spent nearly 14 years at Rutgers University, advancing to roles such as Assistant to the Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellors at the Chancellor's office, and serving as Administrative/Student Coordinator in the Office of Student Academic Success. Celeste holds degrees in Fashion Design and Liberal Studies, and she earned a Master's in Education from Rutgers University. Deeply committed to service, she volunteers as an academic coach for a non-profit, providing tutoring and college preparation for students from under-resourced communities. Beyond her professional endeavors, Celeste enjoys spending quality time with her family, cherishes the arts for inspiration, and explores culinary experiences as an avid foodie, experimenting with cooking and trying new recipes.

Kenneth French

Program Administrator

Ken French has been working at NYUSPS since 2006. He is a published poet and writer. Ken lives in the NYU freshman dorm, Lipton Hall, with his husband, Faculty in Residence and Professor John Moran, where they implement activities for the students. They share the apartment with their furry children, two corgis, Ann-Margret and Cecil.

Anne Maguire

Administrative Aide

Anne Maguire joined the team in 2015 from the Calvin Klein print archive. She has worked as a moving image librarian, starting at the Prelinger Archives, and an archival film researcher at Getty Images. Maguire has worked independently with experimental filmmakers including Barbara Hammer in History Lessons and The Female Closet. She is a lifelong political activist and wrote the book, Rock the Sham!

Jervon currently works with Language Proficiency Exams and has worked with the Languages, Translation, and Interpreting division of PALA for over 10 years. Prior to his current position, he worked with SPS’s Arts and Humanities department and with the English Language Institute. Jervon holds a B.S. from NYU SPS.

Administrative Aide

Victoria has been an NYU community member since July of 2021. She received a B.A. in Digital Media Production at Manhattanville College in 2018, and has a passion for anything creative like music, visual art, video production and more. Prior to her time at the university, she was a Candy Room Associate at M&M’s World in Times Square! She started out at the bookstore and transferred to SPS a little over a year later to take on an AA II role for PALA. She also loves video games, like the sims, animal crossing and pretty much anything in VR.
