On February 27, 2025, the NYU SPS Division of Programs in Business, Finance and Taxation department hosted financial planning industry professionals for a panel discussion named “How to Build a Career in Financial Planning.” The conversation was moderated by Toshi Mitsudome, PhD, Clinical Professor and Faculty Leader of Financial Planning for the M.S. in Financial Planning program
Industry professionals Jeffrey Stern, Joseph Long, and Gianna Terracino, from Strategies for Wealth, were joined by Daniel Ahearn, of Rise Private Wealth, for an engaging discussion about beginning and navigating a career in financial planning. The panel highlighted practical tips, insights into leadership roles, and the application of artificial intelligence technology in financial planning.
The panelists also offered best tips on converting a resume into an interview, and recommendations on applying for internships.One of the most important pieces of advice emphasized was networking and the critical role that human relationships play in succeeding ina career as a financial planner. Attendees had the opportunity to do just that at the networking reception following the event. While enjoying refreshments, students were able to meet with the panelists and get to know each other, taking the next step in their journey into financial planning.
The department of Finance and Taxation offers continuing education courses and 7 certificate programs in finance and a 30-credit MS in Financial Planning. The graduate program can be completed in as little as 3 semesters of full-time study, and prepares students for careers in financial planning. The program offers two concentrations in Behavioral Finance and in Financial Analytics.
