Alumni spotlight: Scott Glauber, Co-Founder of PairME wines

Scott Glauber graduated in May 2019 with a BS in Hotel and Tourism Management degree. Since graduation, he has been working hard to make his start-up, PairME wines, a success. In this story, he tells us more about his entrepreneurship journey.

What has your journey been like after graduating NYU?

Since graduating from NYU, I have been working on my own business. I started developing my business during my senior year at NYU with a friend of mine who currently is my partner. We had always wanted to create a business together and in our senior year it finally happened.

Can you talk about a little bit about PairME and your current role as the founder?

PairME is a wine brand that sources its wine from France and is curated for customers' moods and experiences. The company selects quality wines and presents them to customers through distinct bottle labels that target specific "ME's" (Moods and Experiences). Our goal is to cut through the high-brow talk of oenophiles by bridging the gap between quality and purpose.

My job is to sell the wine as a brand ambassador. Each day, I go to various liquor liquor stores and restaurants to try to sell my wine. Some days it’s easier than others. My partner, Ayush Maheshwari, whom I met at NYU, takes on the marketing aspect, and I take care of the logistics, which I do with my boss. Our brand is aimed at making high-quality French wines accessible to Millennials.

What does it take to start your own company?

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Be prepared that things may go wrong in the beginning. For example, the wine arrived later than expected and the white, red, and rose wines all didn’t have any barcodes on them. It delayed us a month. We had to work through those logistical issues however we were able to solve them by continuing to dedicate ourselves to the business.

What are you passionate about in the work that you do?

I love the selling aspect of my job. As I mentioned, each day I aim to hit 20 liquor stores and restaurants. It’s interesting talking to different types of people and learning to adapt to various cultures as most of these businesses are people of various cultural backgrounds.

In what ways has your NYU experience had an impact on your career and shaped who you are today?

It was great studying at NYU because I wanted to work while going to school and the city really provided me that. NYU’s hospitality program also allowed me to excel in extracurricular activities and my internships.

What career advice would you give to students who are budding entrepreneurs?

Seek out mentors. In my junior year, I had an internship in the wine industry and it really helped me create my business. My boss at the time mentored me to create my own business. Currently, he has partnered with me and he’s responsible for distributing the wine. Also, find something that you’re passionate about. It makes fulfilling your dreams that much easier.
