For the past twelve years, Jens Rudbeck has been a professor at New York University’s Center for Global Affairs, where he leads the International Development and Humanitarian Assistance concentration. He teaches in the areas of international development, humanitarian assistance, food security, and social movements. He earned his M.Sc. in development studies and did his PhD in political science with a focus on democratization in sub-Saharan Africa. His research has primarily focused on the interaction between social movements and the state. Before taking up his position at NYU, Jens spent the academic year 2008-2009 at Columbia University’s Department of Sociology as a visiting scholar. A Danish native, Jens has been a Lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Copenhagen University, and the Institute for Development Studies at Roskilde University. He has also been a Researcher at Copenhagen Peace Research Institute where he worked on issues related to the institute’s Intra-State Conflict Program. Currently, Jens works on a research project that focuses on sustainable development in the Peruvian Amazon.
