Kathleen W Apltauer

Kathleen Wetzel Apltauer serves an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU’s Center for Global Affairs, which is part of NYU’s School for Professional studies. There she teaches Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning for Global Affairs. In 2020, SPS honored Kathleen with their Teaching Excellence Award.
Kathleen Wetzel Apltauer also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Public Service at NYU—Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Currently she coteaches Economics of International Development alongside Jonathan Morduch. For many years, she was a mentor and instructor for Wagner’s International Capstone Projects course. In 2022, Wagner named Kathleen their Adjunct Teacher of the Year. Kathleen’s other job is as an Independent Evaluation Consultant for domestic and international programs working at the intersection of poverty and health. Her content focus is analyzing and synthesizing current science on prevention of diarrhoea, malaria and pneumonia into simple, actionable messages using principles from both communication for behaviour change and behavioural economics.
After more than 20 years with an international NGO in diverse roles that included supply management and strategic communications and advocacy, Kathleen completed her Bachelor of Arts in political science and human rights at Columbia University’s School of General Studies (2007) and her Master of Public Administration at NYU Wagner (2009), where she focused on international health policy and research methods.
