Joseph (Joe) Bittner has a unique career in the accounting education profession as a teacher, trainer, instructional designer and author and is recognized as a leader in the field of accounting education, training and professional development.
Joe has over 20 years of experience working in accounting education and is currently an adjunct accounting professor for Rice University and NYU’s School of Professional Studies. He has also served as an adjunct professor for the University of Connecticut and Baruch College. He fulfills those roles while also performing his full-time position as a Senior Talent Development Consultant for Citrin Cooperman.
Previously Joe was the Chief Learning Officer for Mazars USA LLP, the Director of Program Strategy & Development for Wolters Kluwer’s Tax & Accounting Learning Division, the Director of Learning & Development for EisnerAmper, the Manager of Education Programs for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the Manager of Academic & Career Development for the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). He also served as a full-time accounting instructor for the University of Connecticut.
Joe began his career working with the Big Four accounting firms before transitioning into the education field. His experience in education includes secondary, post-secondary (undergraduate and graduate), continuing, professional adult education and corporate training.
Joe has been honored to receive the NYU School of Professional Studies Award for Teaching Excellence twice, as well as the School’s Outstanding Service Award. He also received the National Business Education Association (NBEA) Distinguished Service Award and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants Chair's Service Award.
Joe has twice chaired the National Business Education Association (NBEA) Accounting Standards Task Force, leading a national group of secondary and post-secondary accounting educators to develop the
national learning standards in business for accounting education.
Joe authored activity-based learning materials for the American Institute of CPAs and the Connecticut Society of CPAs and has written multiple Accounting Workbooks for the courses he teaches.
Joe is a CPA and holds a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Connecticut. Through the Master of Education program at the University of New Haven, he earned a Certificate in Business Education from the Connecticut State Board of Education.
