NEW YORK, February 4, 2019 – The NYU School of Professional Studies recently created a new gallery exhibit space in the lobby of 7 East 12th Street, the building that houses its main administrative offices and some of its classroom space.
The inaugural exhibit was launched in time for Super Bowl LIII, and is titled “What’s Past is Prologue - 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl III - Jets vs Colts.” It is comprised of photos that were provided courtesy of the New York Daily News, and affords an insider’s view into the nation’s divisions during the tumultuous late 1960s and how they played out publicly on professional football fields across the country.
Fifty years ago, the Super Bowl, the nationally televised professional football spectacle, featured the brash, hirsute, countercultural New York Jets versus the establishment, old guard, crew cut Baltimore Colts. The field and players were then, like now, proxy for a cultural war that was tearing America apart. The exhibition will run through February 22, 2019.
The gallery will be accepting proposals for upcoming exhibits from across NYUSPS and the University.
