NEW YORK, December 4, 2018—Last year’s federal tax reform law was the most sweeping tax reform in decades. In addition, the Supreme Court decision in South Dakota versus Wayfair overturned 50 years of precedent regarding sales tax collection responsibilities. On December 17-18, at the Grand Hyatt New York, leading state and local taxation experts will gather for the 37th Annual Institute on State and Local Taxation (SALT), hosted by the Finance and Law programs within the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Division of Programs in Business. They will provide their perspective on the recent tax overhaul and Wayfair implementation as well as share practical insights into this year’s most important state and local tax developments.
Timely topics that will be covered through panels discussions and roundtables on Day One include: Beyond Wayfair: Key Sales Tax Developments for 2018; Apportionment Issues: Recent Developments; Examining Diversity and Inclusion: An Opportunity, Not An Issue; State Tax Administrators Roundtable; Due Process—Significant Current Issues; A Practical Guide For Controversy Resolution; and Ethics in the Age of Streeeeetching the Truth.
Day Two will include content on: State Taxation of Partnerships, LLCs, and Their Owners and an Overview of the New Federal Partnership Audit/Assessment Rules; Federal Tax Reform—Domestic Issues and Their Impact on the States; and Federal Tax Reform—International Issues and Their Impact on the States. Lightning Round discussions also will be included on Credits & Incentives; Unclaimed Property; and Global Workforce.
Each year during the luncheon portion of the Institute, NYUSPS acknowledges an individual who has contributed to industry and to society at large. “This year, we are thrilled to bestow upon Ginny Kissling, global president and chief operating officer at Ryan, the NYU School of Professional Studies Paul H. Frankel Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement in State and Local Taxation,” said Martin Ihrig, associate dean and clinical professor of the NYUSPS Division of Programs in Business. “Her contributions in all areas of state and local tax, combined with her many volunteer efforts, make her the perfect recipient for this prestigious industry award.”
