NEW YORK, February 5, 2019—The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Center for Publishing will host the latest panel discussion in its NYU SPS Media Talk series, “From Book to Screen to Stage: New Audiences for Bestselling Fiction,” on Tuesday, February 12, 6:30 – 8 p.m. The panel will take place at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, Rosenthal Pavilion, 10th Floor, 60 Washington Square South (between LaGuardia Place & Thompson Street). A cocktail reception, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., will follow.
Moderated by Pamela Paul, the panel will feature three bestselling authors—Harlan Coben, Val Emmich, and Adriana Trigiani—who will discuss their literary lives, and the challenges and opportunities of translating their works into new formats. Thriller writer Coben will provide the inside scoop on his new deal with Netflix; Emmich will talk about his bestselling book, Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel, based on the Tony Award-winning musical; and Trigiani will share insight into her work as a television writer, producer, and filmmaker.

Pamela Paul is the editor of The New York Times Book Review and of all book coverage at the newspaper. She is the author of four books, most recently, My Life with Bob, and the editor of an anthology, By the Book: Writers on Literature and the Literary Life. Paul also is the host of The Book Review podcast, the longest-running podcast at The Times. Her latest book, How to Raise a Reader, will be out this fall.
Harlan Coben is The New York Times bestselling author of more than 30 novels, including Don’t Let Go, Home, and Fool Me Once, as well as the multi award-winning Myron Bolitar series. With over 70 million books in print worldwide, his works have been published in 43 languages around the globe, and have been number one bestsellers in more than a dozen countries. Coben also is the creator and executive producer of several television shows, including the critically acclaimed Netflix Original drama Safe, starring Michael C. Hall. He recently signed a deal with Netflix to develop and executive produce 14 more projects, including Run Away, his next thriller to be published next month.
Val Emmich is a bestselling author, singer-songwriter, and actor. His debut YA novel Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel, based on the hit Broadway show, was an instant New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Indie Bound bestseller. In his work as an actor, Emmich has appeared on Vinyl and Ugly Betty, as well as having a memorable guest role on 30 Rock. His debut adult novel, The Reminders, was a Barnes & Noble Discover selection that Library Journal described as “quirky, touching, and addictive.”
Adriana Trigiani is the New York Times bestselling author of 18 books, the most recent of which is Tony’s Wife. Her novels, including the bestsellers Kiss Carlo and The Shoemaker’s Wife, have been published in 36 countries around the world. A playwright, television writer, producer, and filmmaker, she wrote and directed the film adaptation of her novel Big Stone Gap. In 2018, Trigiani directed the romantic comedy Then Came You. Her adaptation of her novel Very Valentine will premiere in June 2019 on Lifetime. Trigiani is cofounder of the Origin Project, an in-school writing program that serves more than a thousand students in Appalachia.
