NEW YORK, March 22, 2019—The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Schack Institute of Real Estate will present a special panel discussion on certified waterfront design and development on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 8:30-11:00 a.m. The event, titled “Raising the Standard for Waterfront Design and Development,” will be held at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, Rosenthal Pavilion 60 Washington Square South, 10th Floor.
The event will kick off with remarks and introductions from Sam Chandan, PhD, FRICS, Silverstein Chair of the NYUSPS Schack Institute, and Barry Hersh, AICP, clinical associate professor at the NYUSPS Schack Institute. The panel discussion, moderated by Roland Lewis, president and CEO of Waterfront Alliance, will include Helena Durst, principal, The Durst Organization; Spencer Orkus, managing director, L+M Development Partners; Tom Outerbridge, general manager, Sims Municipal Recycling; Sanjukta Sen, senior associate, James Corner Field Operations; and Marina Trejo, director of development, Two Trees Management.
Four years after launching its first version of the WEDG® (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines), the Waterfront Alliance has released a nationally applicable version of its award-winning program and guidelines. Used by design professionals and planners, government agencies, and community advocates alike, the free program offers a common language that allows users to work together toward the highest standards in waterfront design and development. The panel will discuss and debate the merits of the program and how cities outside of New York can use WEDG to create and advance new waterfront development.
In the New York metropolitan region, WEDG-certified projects include Brooklyn Bridge Park, Domino Sugar, Greenpoint Landing, Hunters Point South, Starlight Park, and Sunset Park Materials Recycling Facility. In addition to New York City, the Waterfront Alliance is developing partnerships in Boston and the Camden/Philadelphia region.

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Schack Institute of Real Estate was founded in 1967 at the initiative of prominent members of the New York City real estate community, who encouraged NYU to establish an academic center that would provide a world-class education for industry professionals.
