NYU School of Professional Studies Tisch Institute for Global Sport Launches New “Champions” Course as Part of NYU’s Fall “Big Ideas” Offerings
September 17, 2020 - New York, NY—NYU’s “Big Ideas” course series offers an academic experience completely unique to the University. Students engage with faculty experts from across NYU to explore themes and topics relevant to today's issues, including social justice, the arts, sports, and artificial intelligence. These courses offer NYU students the chance to learn in a whole new way, and to approach the world from the vantage point of celebrated and renowned artists, athletes, neuroscientists, philosophers, data journalists, historians, and ethicists.
This year, as part of the “Big Ideas” course series, the NYU School of Professional Studies Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport will offer a course titled “Champions.” The 2-credit course will focus on the intersection of leadership and sports, and will draw upon the experiences of successful sports industry business leaders, star athletes, and coaches through conversations with Roger Goodell, Magic Johnson, Sheila Johnson, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Alex Rodriguez, Jonathan M. Tisch, and Abby Wambach.
“The ‘Champions’ course will cover topics ranging from the importance of team chemistry to the link between winning on the field and success in the executive suite,” noted Vince Gennaro, associate dean of the Tisch Institute. “It will address issues such as aligning an organization around a common goal, building a sustainable winning culture, and race and gender issues in sports.”
These pre-taped conversations will be analyzed and discussed in virtual meetings and through assignments directed by Associate Dean Gennaro and Daniel Kelly, who serves as the academic director for the Tisch Institute’s graduate programs.
