NYU SPS Department of Human Capital Management Receives Gift from Bravely—a Professional Coaching Platform—to Fund Scholarships That Will Support Rising Talent in the Coaching Field, Committed to Furthering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the Workplace

Scholarship Awards Will Support Aspiring Students in the Department’s MS in Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting & Executive Coaching Certificate Program

NEW YORK, April 30 , 2021—Thanks to a generous gift from Bravely, the leading platform providing on-demand professional coaching for employees, the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) Division of Programs in Business, Human Capital Management Department will be able to advance its mission of leading the way in furthering diversity in professional and executive coaching. The gift will support scholarship awards for students in the MS in Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting and the Certificate in Executive Coaching who have a passion for and commitment to increasing diversity in the field of coaching and furthering equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.

“As we witness the diversification of the talent pool of employees and executives across industries, it will be critical for the coaching industry, which supports businesses and employees, to diversify the pool of professional and executive coaches within its ranks. This gift will provide critical scholarship dollars to ensure that NYU SPS serves as a trailblazer in educating the next generation of diverse coaching professionals.” said Anna Tavis, clinical associate professor and academic director of the Human Capital Management Department at NYU SPS.

The gift commitment will provide a $7,500 scholarship for a student enrolled in the MS in Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting (ECOC), as well as $17,500 in scholarships for students enrolled in the Department’s Executive Coaching Certificate — totaling $25,000 a year.

Bravely’s gift underscores its belief in the importance of centering DEIB work in the coaching field. The disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing violence related to systemic racism have contributed to a significant increase in stress and burnout in the workplace over the past year, especially among members of historically marginalized groups. Through the Bravely platform, employees at every level across an organization can access on-demand confidential coaching to support their development and well-being throughout their careers. Bravely’s coaches are a global network of experienced professionals who are rigorously vetted and continually evaluated.

The MS in Executive Coaching and Organizational Consulting was the first graduate program dedicated to the field of coaching in the United States, and was designed to address the growing demand for highly skilled and academically trained coaching and consulting professionals. The program can be completed entirely online, onsite, or in a blended format, with the exception of the one-week Immersion Fundamentals Residency. It is aligned with the International Coach Federation (ICF). Full-time students can complete the degree within one year, while part-time students can complete the degree in two years.

The Certificate in Executive Coaching focuses on developing coaches using a three-pronged approach—the theory and science, evidence-based models and tools, and ICF core competencies. Each course is 12 weeks long and provides 36 synchronous hours and 14 asynchronous hours, which will entitle students to earn 50 coach-specific training hours with ICF per course.
