NYU School of Professional Studies Division of Programs in Business Launches Master’s in Financial Planning
New York, NY — The NYU School of Professional Studies will launch the MS in Financial Planning for Fall 2022, with the opportunity to apply now available. The program will be offered by the School’s Division of Programs in Business, which has been a leader in the field of financial planning for more than 30 years, and has educated thousands of successful financial planners who have gone on to satisfying and lucrative careers.
“This 30-credit degree program can be completed in as little as one year of full-time study, and affords students the option to pursue their education in-person in NYC—the financial capital of the world—or online. It is designed to impart the knowledge and skills required for a career in financial planning, but also offers the opportunity to focus on two emerging areas of the field,” noted Negar Farakish, EdD, assistant dean of the NYU SPS Division of Programs in Business.
Those unique areas include: Behavioral Finance, which explores Applied Behavioral Finance, Communication for Professional Development, and Money and Relationships; and Financial Analytics, which focuses on Applied Statistics, Investment Data Analytics, and Personal Financial Analytics. Financial planning firms often find that while technical skills are important, their ideal candidate is someone who can meet with clients, communicate effectively, and make recommendations. To move into more senior-level roles, financial planners need to demonstrate that they can work with clients, conduct a comprehensive analysis, and cultivate relationships.
“With millions of Baby Boomers retiring, as well as younger individuals seeking new and innovative ways to manage their finances, the demand for financial planners who are capable of offering counsel that is data-driven, behaviorally focused, and immediately applicable, is on the rise,” noted Martin Ihrig, DBA, associate dean of the NYU SPS Division of Programs in Business. “This degree is specifically designed to meet the demand in a changing financial environment and is a great fit for recent graduates, as well as for those further along in their career.”
A select group of students will be admitted for the initial cohort. The program aligns closely with CFP® requirements, can be completed full-time or part-time, and will provide students with a comprehensive background in a growing field, combined with a highly respected NYU education.
