NYU School of Professional Studies to Present a Panel Discussion on the Biden-Harris Administration’s Policy Priorities for Economic and Social Inclusion

Jan. 19 Event to Include Sonya Anderson, EdD, President, Thrive Chicago; Ken McIntyre, CEO, Real Estate Executive Council; and John Tanzella, President & CEO, International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), in Addition to Faculty Members from the School’s Programs in Business, Hospitality, Publishing, Real Estate, and Global Sport

NEW YORK, January 13, 2021—The day prior to the much anticipated inauguration of the 46^th president of the United States, and immediately following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) will present an industry discussion exploring the new administration’s policy priorities and the role of industry in supporting economic and social inclusion as the country begins to emerge from one of the most volatile periods in its history.

Co-presented by the NYU SPS Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, Belonging, Equity and Accessibility (IDBEA), “The New Administration and Policy Priorities for Economic and Social Inclusion” event will take place on January 19, 2021, from noon to 2 p.m. ET. Please register for the event here.

The observations from the afternoon’s panel discussions will be included in a policy brief by Sam Chandan, PhD, Silverstein Chair and associate dean for the NYU SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate; Billie Gastic Rosado, PhD, associate dean for Liberal Arts, Languages, and Post-Traditional Undergraduate Studies at NYU SPS; and Fiona Jaramillo, chief of staff at the NYU SPS Office of the Dean, which will be shared with policymakers in the nation’s capital.

The “Federal Policies in Support of Economic & Social Inclusion” panel, which will begin at 12:15 p.m., will focus on issues relating to the impact of urban housing policy, workforce training, immigration policy, and the role of news and social media in building policy awareness in the general population. Much of the discussion will address disparities in economic outcomes during the pandemic. As looming fiscal challenges for city and state governments threaten cuts to vital services for underserved populations, the panel also will address the role of the federal government in supporting states and cities.

The “Industry Strategies for Social Justice” panel, which will begin at 1:20 p.m., will focus on how different industries are working to address disparities in their workforces, and the markets and communities they serve. Ken McIntrye, CEO of the Real Estate Executive Council, the premier trade association for Black and Hispanic real estate professionals, will speak to issues in hiring, fundraising, and investment in underserved communities; Sonya Anderson, EdD, president, Thrive Chicago, will bring her deep knowledge of education reform and the use of data to accelerate innovation to the discussion; and John Tanzella, president & CEO, International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), will lend his expertise in the area of LGBTQ tourism and the need to support responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism.
