New York, NY - Cameron Myler, JD, clinical assistant professor at the NYU School of Professional Studies Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport, has been involved with the Olympics throughout her personal life and her professional career. She was a member of the US National Luge Team for 14 years, won the National Championships seven times, was named US Female Luge Athlete of the Year nine times, and represented the United States at four Olympic Games (1988 – Calgary, 1992 – Albertville, 1994 – Lillehammer, 1998 – Nagano). In 1994, she was elected by her teammates to carry the American flag at the Opening Ceremonies in Lillehammer, which she remembers vividly as being both humbling and incredibly exciting.
After retiring from Olympic competition, Myler earned a law degree at Boston College Law School and practiced law for a decade in New York City. During this time, she represented Olympic athletes, sports organizations and executives in regulatory, eligibility, anti-doping and ethics matters. She also served as an arbitrator and has heard cases both before the American Arbitration Association, as well as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In February 2018, she served on the CAS Anti-Doping Division at the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. Today she shares her Olympic experiences as well as her vast knowledge of sports law with students at the Tisch Institute for Global Sport.
Myler also has an incredible passion for art, and has been painting since her time as a student at Dartmouth College. Today her artistic creations include photography, painting, textiles, and mixed media. Her work has been exhibited at the United Nations, the National Arts Club, and the New York Athletic Club, as well as in juried shows and gallery exhibits. It is this keen interest and ability to translate the beauty around her into art, that has once again connected her back to the Olympics, though her participation in the Olympic Agora. An initiative launched by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage (OFCH), the Olympic Agora was designed as a unique project at the intersection of the arts, culture, creativity, and the Olympic Values.
The first Olympic Agora was hosted by Tokyo last summer at the 2020 Olympic Games. The second edition of the program is featuring seven Olympian Artists-in-Residence who were selected to create and present new, original artworks inspired by the Olympic values and the magic of winter sports. Myler was selected as one of the Olympian Artist-in-Residence to create new works for the Olympic Agora in Beijing, where the Olympic Winter Games will start on February 4. Her series of images, which combine photography, painting, and text graphics focus on “Unite,” “Inspire,” and “Believe,” as overarching themes for viewers, engaging them in the beauty of the winter scenes she has photographed, while inspiring them with powerful messages about the Winter Olympics and their true meaning and purpose.
