Veteran Sports Business Expert and Educator Kelly Steps into His New Role Starting This Month

Daniel Kelly Appointed Associate Dean at the NYU SPS Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport
New York, February 24, 2025 — The NYU School of Professional Studies today announced the appointment of Daniel G. Kelly II, a seasoned sports business expert and education leader, as the new Associate Dean of the School’s Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport, effective February 2025.
Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the role. Since 2019, he has served as the NYU SPS Tisch Institute’s Academic Director of Graduate Programs and Clinical Professor. Before NYU SPS, he was the Faculty Director and Associate Professor of the Practice for the Sports Industry Management Program at Georgetown University.
Kelly was also an Associate Professor and the Director of Sport Management at Wilmington College and has taught at DeSales University. He holds a Ph.D. in Sport Management from The Ohio State University, an M.S. in Sport Studies, and a B.S. in Business Management from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business at Miami University (Ohio).

Stedman Dean of NYU SPS. “In his new role as Associate Dean, he’ll have the opportunity to build upon his impressive global sport experience and extensive network to help our students learn the skills to be well-rounded global sport professionals.”
In addition to his academic pursuits, Kelly has consulted on strategic leadership and global business initiatives with FC Barcelona’s Barca Innovation Hub, River Plate University Institute, and Superliga. In preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Kelly was the academic lead for the Josoor Institute’s Football and Sport Management diploma program in Qatar.
“As I reflect on my experiences with students over the past 20 years, including my time at NYU SPS, I’m proud of their success and the role that I’ve played in helping guide them in their respective journeys to finding their dream careers,” said Kelly. “In my new role at the NYU SPS Tisch Institute, I look forward to building on the success of the Tisch Institute to provide even more access to career-connected learning experiences and real-world skills training for our students.”
A 20-year veteran of the global sports industry, Kelly is a sought-after expert by media, providing insights on the international sports industry to prominent outlets, such as USA Today, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, Yahoo! Finance, Sports Business Journal, and Sportico, among other global outlets. Also, at NYU SPS, Daniel has organized Executive Education and Custom Programming for emerging leaders at the National Football League (NFL).
