Rethinking Work: The Distributed Workforce

Join NYU SPS Human Capital Management Department Chair, Dr. Anna Tavis, as she welcomes Annie Dean, Global Head of Team Anywhere at Atlassian, to the Rethinking Work series!

In 2020, Atlassian undertook a big change: The company moved to a model of fully distributed work. Team members have the option of working from home, one of Atlassian's 12 global offices, a mix of both, or from somewhere else entirely.

The years since have seen numerous benefits for Atlassian, including consistent performance, savings on real estate, improved productivity and focus at work, and perhaps most importantly, over 90% of employees reporting that the distributed model allows them to do their best work.

The initiative is called Team Anywhere, and Annie Dean is the person responsible for Atlassian's shift to this distributed work model. Annie is a globally recognized expert on remote and flexible working models and strategies for success.

In the first Rethinking Work session of the Spring 2025 semester, Annie will share the insights that Atlassian has learned from this yearslong initiative, and why companies should focus less on where work gets done, and more on how it gets done.
