Publishing Your Literary Translation Workshop

Join us on April 22 from 12-1pm ET for an engaging Publishing Your Literary Translation Workshop led by renowned literary translator Sandra Smith, hosted by NYU's Master's in Translation and Interpreting. With over forty acclaimed translations to her name—includingSuite Françaiseby Irène Némirovsky and Albert Camus'The Outsider—Smith brings unparalleled expertise to this session.

The workshop will provide an overview of the publishing landscape for literary translations, offering practical guidance on how to effectively pitch and propose your projects to publishers. Drawing on her extensive experience, Smith will share insider tips and strategies for navigating the path from manuscript to publication.

 

Sandra Smith has published over forty translations, including Suite Française and 12 other novels by Irène Némirovsky, But You Did Not Come Back (Marceline Loridan-Ivens), The Necklace and Other Stories: Maupassant for Modern Times, The Outsider (Albert Camus), Inseparable (Simone de Beauvoir), In the Shadow of Paris (Anne Sinclair), among others. Smith has won the French American Translation Prize, the PEN Translation Prize, the Independent British Booksellers Book of the Year and the National Jewish Book Award. She taught at Cambridge University for many years before returning to the US. She is currently co-chair of the PEN America Translation Committee.
