The Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality offers the MS in Event Management (MSEM), one of the first degrees of its kind in the country. Event management is the process of envisioning, designing, producing and delivering live events or virtual events, ranging from business conventions and trade shows to festivals and weddings. Event management is one of the fast-growing sectors of the hospitality management industry.

The event industry offers a wealth of jobs and career opportunities, with job titles that include: event producer, venue manager, sponsorship manager, marketing manager, and wedding planner. Event careers are available in the private, public, and non-for-profit sectors.

Event managers need to combine two distinct skill sets. For event design, event managers need to be creative and innovative, so that they can produce successful events that surprise and delight their guests. In addition, they need to be detail-oriented project managers, who can coordinate all of the different event suppliers, while managing event budgets, securing event permits, and negotiating event contracts.
