Douglas Harrison Appointed Associate Dean at the NYU School of Professional Studies Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies

Higher Education Veteran Harrison To Lead the Program’s Diverse Community of Learners Through Their Undergraduate Educational Journeys

New York, NY, March 27, 2023 – The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) today announced the appointment of higher education veteran Douglas Harrison, PhD, as the associate dean of the School’s Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS), effective May 1, 2023.

Before joining NYU SPS, Harrison was vice president and founding dean at the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), where he was deeply engaged in transforming the learning experience for the University. In addition, he was part of the UMGC President’s Cabinet, advising on key projects and initiatives across the University.

“Our mission for our DAUS program is to provide transformative experiences for students at all stages of their undergraduate educational journeys,” said NYU SPS Dean Angie Kamath. “With his expertise working closely with industry to develop strong career-connected learning, Doug will be instrumental in helping us evolve our DAUS on-site and online offerings for our diverse community of learners.”

Harrison has also held administrative and faculty appointments at Trinity Washington University, where he led a transformation of the first-year curriculum at the university’s historic women’s college; James Madison University, where he oversaw career development initiatives for faculty; and Florida Gulf Coast University, where he was faculty senate president and a member of the Board of Trustees.

His work in higher education has been recognized with the National Education Association’s Award for Excellence in the Academy and the John W. Kluge Fellowship at the Library of Congress. Harrison received a bachelor’s degree from the Pierre Laclede Honors College at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and master’s and doctoral degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.
